Ski Touring

Ski touring to Sunshine Peak started commercially in the season of 2009/10 with a few privileged guests staying in local shepherds hutts and being guided by Billa Bakshi. Signing up for a ski tour will give you exclusive access to terrain rarely skied and an experience of a life time amongst some of the most beautiful mountains on the planet. Your highly trained and experienced guide will lead you on a two day/ two-night trek from Gulmarg to the spectacular Sunshine Peak where you will complete a number of virgin descents and stay in privately owned shepherd huts before being collected from Drung village.

The tour begins with a descent from the top of the gondola down the back-side of Apherwat to Drung River, sleeping equipment and supplies will be left in one of the private shepherd huts constructed from wood, mud and stone before hiking toward Sunshine Peak, launch from drop zone by 5pm before returning to the huts. Day Two will involve further hiking and spectacular rides before collection from Drung River later in the afternoon. Return to Gulmarg in 4WD taxi.

It is important that anyone wishing to participate in a ski tour brings with them all the relevant equipment including sleeping bag, foam mattress, clothing, snow shoes/ touring skis, avalanche beacon and safety equipment.
